Something is wrong, most probably.

The graph shows spacecraft is off course – bad news? Nobody is saying anything, though we can see some scientists look shaken.

20 minutes to go – PM Modi is in ISTRAC center in Bangaluru. Final 20 minutes to go.

छोटी सी ज़िन्दगी – Life of 14 days – Pragyaan lives for only 14 days – because the temperatures there are extreme: from -150 to 150 degree celcius, during a moonday. And then, there is almost no sunlight on the south pole. Any rover depends on sunlight for replenishing its energy needs. Yeah: rovers do not have nuclear power, yet. Why? Because we do not want to contaminate space bodies with nuclear material, in case of a mishap.

Rate per sq ft? – On a lighter note, the meme creator army has started being creative on social media. The price of land on the moon is being discussed.

07-Sep-2019, 00:20 AM IST

Which exact location Pragyaan is going to land on – On the south pole of the moon, there are 2 regions allocated for landing, between the craters Manzimus-C and Simpelius-N. Each of these areas is around half a square kilometers in area, and they are around 1.6 km apart. If Vikram is unable to land on the first location, it will attempt for the second one.

Why on the South Pole – Any planet or its satellite that revolves sun – gets the least amount of light and heat of the sun on 2 regions – one called north pole and the other south pole.  Since the moon does not have an atmosphere – any water molecules present on it would be quickly evaporated when light and heat falls on its surface. However, that is not true for the poles – poles get almost negligible amount of heat from the Sun, so the poles are the ideal regions to still have water molecules present. That is why, we are looking at one of the poles – the south one, for this time.

Time of Landing – Vikram Lander will separate itself from the orbiter, then in a breathtaking sequence of 15 minutes, will land the Rover Pragyaan on the moon. This exercise will begin at 1:55:20 AM IST.

Prim Minister Narendra Modi has arrived Bengaluru – with him an enthusiastic army of around 70 children. And a special team of scientists from Bhutan – what a nice gesture to give a clear message to the world – we want to share the knowledge, and want to build a formidable team of scientists – not only from India but from South Asia.

What will Pragyaan Rover do on the moon:

Pragyaan rover will work for 14 earth days, and will collect a lot of scientific information about the moon. Among other information, it will collect information about elements present on the moon, including water; will investigate possibility of life forming elements, and also some very precious material like Helium. If India manages to discover source of Helium, it can contribute hugely to India’s economy in the coming years. Think of Middle East discovering fossil fuel- It could be that big a discovery.

The four parts of the Chadrayaan 2 Mission:

  1. The Launcher: This is our GSLV MkIII rocket, the most powerful one India has. It has successfully placed the spacecraft into the orbit.
  2. The Orbiter: So what was injected into the Orbit? This is the spacecraft that will revolve around the moon. Not only tonight but for the coming 2 years. It hovered first into the earth orbit and then the moon orbit: It was the spacecraft containing the Lander and the Rover inside it.
  3. The Lander: Also known as Vikram,  This will take something to the moon from the orbit of the moon.
  4. The Rover: This is that something – which will live on the moon for the next 14 days.  Named as Pragyaan, It will land on the south pole of the moon, where nothing has landed till date.

India will only be the fourth country to soft-land on the moon. Which makes this event special.
